Kiwanis Club of Placerville History
Welcome to the Placerville Kiwanis Website! Since our club was chartered on April 4, 1956, the Placerville Kiwanis Club has been an active part of the local community. We are a growing club with over 45 members, we support four high school Key Clubs: El Dorado, Golden Sierra, Ponderosa, and Union Mine, two Builders Clubs: Markham Middle School and Golden Sierra, and the AKTION Club of El Dorado County for Adults living with a disability.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Our members volunteer over 3,000 hours each year to Projects and children in the community. We raise money in the community through our annual Studebaker Wheelbarrow Race. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to support our Scholarship Program at the four local high schools, as well as a variety of important community nonprofit organizations.
Our activities include the Academic Decathlon, the Easter Egg Hunt, the City of Placerville Fishing Derby, Holiday Food baskets for families in need, Placerville Food Distribution, the Food Distribution in Cameron Park, and also in Pollock Pines. The Food Distributions are in collaboration/conjunction with EDCOE and Feeding the Foothills, and many more activities.
A regional project that we support is the Kiwanis Family House, which provides lodging for families with a family member being treated at UC Davis Medical Center or at Shriners Hospital.
